  6.                In addition to seized and forfeited property,
  7.           governments may auction off abandoned property.  For
  8.           example, the U.S. Postal Service holds auctions from time
  9.           to time.  Typically, the items sold are packages that are
  10.           not delivered for one reason or another.  These are
  11.           consolidated in the following five regional centers of
  12.           the U.S. Postal Service:

  34.                You might find that items for sale may be viewed at
  35.           8 a.m. on the day of the auction, with the official
  36.           bidding beginning at 10 a.m.
  37.                A catalog describing specific lots for sale and
  38.           additional instructions typically will be available on
  39.           the day of the auction.  Most of the items are
  40.           merchandise you'd find in a department store, the kinds
  41.           of things people send as gifts: books, clothing, etc. 
  42.           Often, the items are grouped into large lots, or "tubs,"
  43.           for which you bid as a package.
  44.                In order to bid, you must have a numbered paddle
  45.           issued by postal personnel at the auction.  When the
  46.           bidding starts, all interested buyers raise their
  47.           paddles.  As the auctioneer increases the price, buyers
  48.           who lose interest drop their paddles.  The last raised
  49.           paddle is the winner.  All items are sold "as is" and
  50.           must be paid for in cash or cashier's, certified, or
  51.           traveler's checks.  If you submit the high bid, you're
  52.           responsible for supplying containers and transportation
  53.           necessary to remove your purchases from the premises by
  54.           4 p.m. on the day of the sale.
  55.                Most post offices auction used vehicles, too,
  56.           especially jeeps and vans.  Call your local post office
  57.           and ask when the sale will take place.
